Project Overview

Homeowners Abby and Joe purchased the property in 2020, seeking a retreat where their young family could spend summers and weekends by the lake. As their needs evolved, so did their vision to expand the home’s functionality, improve flow, and create a space that could comfortably accommodate both their growing children and visiting extended family.

Working within the constraints of a non conforming lot that limited outward expansion, the design solution focused upward, introducing a thoughtfully integrated second story addition. This new level provides two additional bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a flexible loft space that serves as both a cozy library and a hangout area for the children. A central open staircase with modern cable railing connects the levels, bringing light and visual continuity into the heart of the home.

The renovation also reimagined the main living areas. The kitchen, previously confined to an awkward layout, was relocated and opened into a cohesive great room. Large windows were added to maximize views of the surrounding golf course and wooded landscape, reinforcing a strong indoor outdoor connection. The result is a bright, flowing space designed for gathering, entertaining, and everyday family life.

Outside, the home’s worn deck was replaced with a durable composite system, expanding the outdoor living area and creating an inviting setting for hosting friends and family. A custom pergola structure, carefully aligned with the home’s updated rooflines, adds architectural interest while tying the old and new elements together seamlessly.

Throughout the project, the Joe and Abby embraced an eclectic, modernized aesthetic, honoring the home’s original character with features like exposed timber rooflines and tongue and groove ceilings, while introducing clean lines and contemporary finishes. Exterior updates, including a fresh color palette and coordinated entry and garage doors, further elevate the home’s curb appeal.

Mechanical systems were also upgraded, including new HVAC and a tankless water heater, ensuring long term efficiency and comfort.

The result is a reimagined lake home that balances personality with practicality, a space designed not only for today, but for years of memories to come.
