Like Stebnitz Builders (est. 1972), Abbey Springs has been a fixture in Walworth County, since 1971. It brings together a community of homeowners to enjoy premier leisure and recreational activities on the shores of Geneva Lake.
Like any other home, time marches on and the homes that have kept this community together for generations as a place to retreat and relax require updating and improvements to fit best with the current owner. Stebnitz Builders has performed several projects in Abbey Springs over our 51 years and one consistent frustration with the layout, is the number of bedrooms in the home. Our clients faced that same frustration and needed to gain more space to enjoy their home more fully.
The idea of an addition to their home began two years ago when their son was hired to work the summer months at a local grocery store. With their previous layout, his bedroom was an air mattress in the middle of the hallway. The mattress also occupied a critical path to the only bathroom in the condo. This presented an issue for our client’s family, and they needed our help to create the best solution.
Instead of tiptoeing past their sleeping son for another summer, our clients reached out to us to see what their options were and if an addition to the home could provide the new space needed. We were able to design an addition to their home that added five beds to the new floor plan. The main level now provides an extended bedroom suite, another bedroom with two full beds, and a bunk room with two single beds lined up against the wall to maximize the space for another sleeping quarters.
The second floor, which previously only housed a kitchen and living room with a deck spanning the length of the room, now features a new three-season porch to take advantage of the natural light and views of the Abbey Springs golf course. While we greatly improved the views from the second floor, the change our clients appreciated most was the addition of a second-floor powder room. This is unique because most Abbey Springs condominiums were not designed with a bathroom next to their living room.
With the remodel complete, our clients are free to enjoy their first full summer in 2023 with space to spread out and the flexibility to entertain!
