As a custom, design-build remodeling company, our clients often come to us with goals that require creative solutions. This project was no different. Our clients, two brothers and their wives, looked to create a lake escape for their family. The dream was to create a place for their children to create lifelong memories together at the lake, while simultaneously creating a space that could be rented on a short-term basis for others to create wonderful memories of their own.
After a year or so of searching, an ideal property on Delavan Lake was identified. With two old stand-alone cottages and a dilapidated primary home, our clients believed they could fulfill both dreams.
However, due to complex zoning ordinances in our area, our team needed to maintain the habitability of the primary home (while completely rebuilding it) or risk forever losing it or the two cottages. Their understanding from the county was that they couldn’t have it all. Enter Stebnitz Builders.
Our vast experience with county zoning empowered us to offer a creative solution. Simply put, our team tore-down the main home and rebuilt a new home in its place in two phases, lakeside first, then roadside.
The result? The perfect lake retreat for any sized group!
The primary home is simply stunning, designed to be accessible to all, with an expansive area for entertainment and sleeping for up to eighteen. The preservation of the two smaller cottages provides additional housing options for guests and other renters.
In the main house, we designed a zero-entry front entrance and a barrier-free suite on the main floor to accommodate our clients’ mother and any other guests with physical limitations. The main floor is completely accessible with plenty of space to move about.
The open-concept kitchen and living space offer a view of Delavan Lake from all vantage points! The large island and dining table for twelve make mealtimes memorable, especially for large groups. The area is the perfect place for a large gathering affording ample room and the flexibility to engage in various activities, including playing pool, watching television, or relaxing in the recessed hot tub on the deck.
The second-floor features two, bedroom suites and two additional bedrooms separated by a hall bathroom. Each family has their own space for respite with a room designed specifically for them! The two suites are connected by a second story viewing deck that overlooks the lake, providing spectacular views and privacy from each en-suite.
Finally, we head to the third level! This space is perfect for the kids and their friends. Complete with toy boxes, hidden playrooms, and two vintage arcade games, children and parents can enjoy time apart while in the same home. We also designed a bunk room in half of the lofted space which accommodates sleeping for up to six more additional guests and maximizes this home’s hosting potential.
No lake home would be complete without its outdoor entertainment area to make the most of the time at the lake. Our clients and guests now have the opportunity to relax in their hot tub, warm up by the new fire pit, or enjoy an outdoor twilight dinner, all complimented with the amazing lakeside views.
